WHEREAS:                      The intersection of Route 16 (also known as the Alewife Brook Parkway) and Woods Avenue in Somerville lacks a marked crosswalk and accessible curb infrastructure, creating a pedestrian safety hazard for residents including seniors, children, and event attendees at Dilboy Stadium on a road where accidents and injuries are already statistically high; and

WHEREAS:                      Route 16 at this location is a state roadway under the jurisdiction of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), and any restoration of pedestrian crossing infrastructure requires DCR review, approval, and action; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED: That the Somerville City Council calls on the Administration to engage with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to create safe, ADA-accessible pedestrian crossing infrastructure at the intersection of Route 16 and Woods Avenue.
