Recognizing January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

WHEREAS: Friday, January 27, 2023 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and marks the seventy-eighth anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp; and

WHEREAS: 2023 marks the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising; and

WHEREAS: The City of Somerville has a strong and vibrant Jewish community that forms an essential part of our diverse and welcoming City;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED: That the Somerville City Council respectfully recognizes January 27th as International Holocaust Remembrance day;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That, on this anniversary, the Somerville City Council recommits itself to combating the global rise in anti-Semitism, and advancing an inclusive Somerville that rejects hate and discrimination.
