A RESOLUTION TO DEDICATE HENRY HANSEN PARK FOR RECREATIONAL USE IN PERPETUITY
Whereas: Henry Hansen Park, located at 487 Medford Street, is a community-wide asset and preservation and improvements to City open space are a City priority as evidenced in the most recent Open Space and Recreation Plan (“Plan”); and
Whereas: Renovation of Henry Hansen Park has long been a priority to be implemented as fiscal resources became available; and
Whereas: The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) has awarded the City of Somerville a reimbursable grant of $375,224 to support the renovation of Henry Hansen Park through the Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (PARC) grant program (301 CMR 5.00); and
Whereas: As a condition of acceptance of a PARC grant the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs requires that all properties renovated using PARC funds become protected parkland under Article 97 of the Amendments to the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, dedicated to recreation use in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 45.
Whereas: Henry Hansen Park is not yet dedicated to park and recreation purposes under M.G.L. Chapter 45.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
1. That this City Council approves dedication of Henry Hansen Park to park and recreation purposes in perpetuity under M.G.L. Chapter 45 s.3; and
2. That this resolution shall take effect upon passage.
