To the Honorable City Council:
The Mayor respectfully requests that this Council approve to create the Immigrant Legal Services Stabilization Fund under the provisions of MGL 40, Section 5B. This Fund will be used for the purpose of affording Somerville’s immigrant residents the opportunity to consult with a licensed, competent immigration attorney and covering the cost of legal representation if, upon consultation, a viable path to permanent residency is determined. The fund will be for Somerville residents, or if unhoused, having their last residence in Somerville.
Funding sources may include General Fund appropriations, grants, gifts, and other special revenue sources.
Appropriate staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
