Official Text

WHEREAS:                      Yes on 4 for Safer Roads is a campaign to uphold the common-sense law known as the Work and Family Mobility Act, which allows qualified residents, regardless of immigration status, to obtain a standard driver’s license if they provide proof of identity, date of birth, and Massachusetts residency, as well as pass the required driver’s test; and

WHEREAS:                      This will ensure that all Massachusetts drivers are properly tested, licensed, and insured; and

WHEREAS:                     Ensuring that all drivers in Massachusetts are tested, licensed and insured will lead to safer roads for all of us and give law enforcement more tools to do their jobs efficiently and effectively; and

WHEREAS:                     Yes on 4 for Safer Roads supports public safety in our communities, ensuring that all workers and families can safely and legally make essential trips like dropping off kids at school and getting to work, medical appointments, and the grocery store; and

WHEREAS:                      Yes on 4 for Safer Roads would allow Massachusetts to experience both safety and revenue benefits many states with similar laws have enjoyed, including seeing uninsured driving drop up to 80 percent; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED: That the Somerville City Council supports Yes on 4 for Safer Roads to uphold the Work and Family Mobility Act and make roads safer for everyone.
