Official Text

To the Honorable City Council:

The Mayor respectfully requests that this Council accept and approve expending a grant of $9,809.81 from U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance to the Somerville Police Department, under the provisions of MGL Chapter 44, Section 53A. This grant requires matching funds from the city.

The purpose of this grant is to pay for body armor vests. This grant is a matching grant and provides 50% reimbursement up to the amount of $9,809.81 for body armor vests. Once the reimbursement is processed through this federal grant, we are eligible to apply for the remaining 50% to be reimbursed by the state Bulletproof Vest Program. Body armor vests were budgeted for in FY27 under the Public Safety Supplies account 0121052-558003.

Appropriate staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your consideration of this item.

Respectfully submitted,

Jake Wilson, Mayor
