To the Honorable Board:

I hereby request, subject to the approval of your Honorable Board, a supplemental appropriation of two million dollars ($2,000,000) to establish a Facility Construction and Renovation Stabilization Fund under the provisions of Chapter 40, Section 5B of the Massachusetts General Laws.

The purpose of the Facility Construction and Renovation Stabilization is to fund costs attributable to:

* The remodeling, reconstruction, or extraordinary repairs to public buildings owned by the City of Somerville, including the cost of engineering or architectural services for plans and specifications and including original equipment and landscaping, paving, and other site improvements incidental or directly related to such remodeling, reconstruction, or repair.

* Preventative Maintenance programs designed to extend the life of building components.

In addition to direct expenses, debt Service incurred in furtherance of the purposes of the Facility Construction and Renovation Stabilization Fund may also be appropriated.

I thank you for your most serious consideration of this request.

Respectfully,

Joseph A. Curtatone
