To the Honorable Board:
Hello, I would like to share my experience about the snow plowing during the blizzard last week in Somerville. I live on Putnam Road in Ten Hills and have two families with a shared driveway. Tuesday night I shoveled my whole sidewalk and driveway early because I knew I would be at work Wednesday and wanted to ensure my tenants could leave the house safely. I left for work Wednesday with a clear walkway at both houses and a cleared driveway. When I came home from work Wednesday night I was horrified to see my sidewalks completely covered in snow, more than even when the snow fell. My neighbors informed me that the plows came by during the day and drove so fast and close to the curb, trying to clean the street of course, but in doing so completely covered all my sidewalks and driveway with snow. I made a formal complaint to the city Wednesday night and heard nothing back from it. My concern was the safety of my tenants and anyone who may have been on the sidewalk when the plow came by. I ended up shoveling a pathway Wednesday night which took about 3 hours. I have attached pictures to show just how bad the snow was. Never has this happened to me and I have lived here for 23 years.
Also, I think that alternating the side of the street in which you can park during a snow emergency is a great idea. Year after year we are stuck with crazy piles of snow in front our my houses on the even side of the street and having to deal with the plows filling in the driveway openings. I think it's only fair to alternate sides every year.
Thank you,
