Communicating information regarding the needed relocation of the Public Safety Building.

To the Honorable Board;

 

The Mayor's Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development has undertaken steps to identify suitable sites within the City to accommodate the needs of new headquarters buildings for the Somerville Fire and Somerville Police Departments.

 

These relocations are a result of the poor physical condition of the current Public Safety Building, the inadequacies of that facility to meet the needs of the Fire and Police Departments and the advancement of the Union Square Revitalization Plan. That plan identifies the location of the Public Safety Building, as well as other adjacent privately owned buildings as part of the  D-1 Civic Center Block.
