To the Honorable City Council:

I respectfully request that your Honorable City Council accept a grant of $3,418.00 from the IMLS CARES ACT as distributed by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to the Somerville Public Library, under the provisions of MGL Chapter 44, Section 53A. This grant does not require the commitment of new matching funds. The purpose of this grant is to pay for a series of virtual workshops and makers-kits for children and families,  including: a Baby Sign Language program, Urban Ecology kits, and Take-and-Make STEAM kits.

The Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS) Grant is part of the Federal CARES Act. A total of $50 million has been distributed to the states for the purpose of supporting libraries and museums in responding to the pandemic crisis.
