Official Text

To the Honorable Board:

I hereby request your consideration of amending the current City of Somerville City Ordinances, Chapter 1 - General Provisions, Section 1-11 Penalties and Violations, “Traffic and Parking Regulations”, by inserting the following language at the end of the existing table:

Invalid or expired registration plate                     $50                     Police; Traffic and Parking

Invalid or expired inspection sticker                     $50                     Police; Traffic and Parking

In an effort to improve our allocation of resources, we request to allow Parking Control Officers (PCO's) to issue two (2) additional violations; 1) expired vehicle registration, and 2) expired vehicle inspection.  Previously, this has solely been a function of the Somerville Police Department.

Matt Dias, the Acting Director of Traffic and Parking, is available to answer any questions you may have.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone

Mayor

Amended

That the fine for each violation shall be $50, not $25.

That no fine shall be issued until 72 hours after the expiration of the vehicle inspection sticker.
