To the Honorable Board:

I want to add my comments for the Union Square zoning plan that was discussed at a meeting last night. I believe that we need to have more than 15% open space and not include sidewalks in this calculation. The total open space needs to be more like 34% not including sidewalks as the Civic Advisory Committee has advocated for. More open space including a high proportion of green space will add to the beauty and environmental sustainability of the city. Somerville is already lacking in open and green space, so this is an opportunity to increase this space in Union Square. More space for people to gather in will also create more of a sense of community in Union Square.

I hope you will take my comments into account for the zoning plan in Union Square.
