Official Text

To the Honorable Board:

I respectfully request that you accept a Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (PARC) grant in the amount of $403,200 from the Division of Conservation Services for the acquisition of 3 parcels located at 15-25 Cross Street East for the purposes of constructing a new Harris Park and agree to dedicate 15-25 Cross Street East as parkland in perpetuity immediately following acquisition.   This is one of three PARC grants the City recently competed for successfully.  As part of the grant requirements, the City must vote to accept the PARC grant.  Three other Board Actions (appropriation of capital funds, authorization to acquire the parcels, and a Home Rule Petition to discontinue the existing Harris Park and transfer the park to the new location) are also being submitted for your consideration at this time.

In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 44, Section 53A, which requires a vote of the Board of Aldermen for the expenditure of grants or gifts from the federal government and from a charitable foundation, private corporation, or an individual, or from the Commonwealth, a county or municipality or agency thereof, I request approval to expend this grant.

OSPCD staff will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone

Mayor
