Dear Honorable Board Members:

I respectfully request that you accept a PARC grant in the amount of $400,000 from the Division of Conservation Services for the renovation of Otis Playground located at 59 Otis Street, at the intersection of Otis and Dana Streets.

In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 44, Section 53A, which requires a vote of the Board of Aldermen for the expenditure of grants or gifts from the federal government and from a charitable foundation, private corporation, or an individual, or from the Commonwealth, a county or municipality or agency thereof,  we request approval to expend this grant. Two other Board Actions - appropriation of Otis Playground construction costs and dedication of the land as open space in perpetuity - will also be submitted for your consideration.

This project will be designed in accordance with a thorough community design process. Upon acceptance of this PARC grant, may begin construction July 1, 2015. Increased green space and improved recreation facilities are city priorities and the renovation of this playground will significantly increase the quality of life for our residents. Dedication of this land to open space and recreation will ensure that future generations will continue to enjoy this playground.

Thank you for your consideration. OSPCD staff will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone

Mayor
