To the Honorable Board:

In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 44, section 53A, which requires a vote of the Board of Aldermen for the expenditure of grants or gifts from the federal government and from a charitable foundation, private corporation, or an individual, or from the Commonwealth, a county or municipality or agency thereof, I respectfully request your approval to expend a grant of $7,500 from the Massachusetts Cultural Council to support the Somerville Arts Council's Books of Hope program that focuses on promoting literacy within the Somerville Housing Development.

The grant award letter is attached for your consideration.
