To the Board of Aldermen:
I have just received in the mail a letter from Zone Smart Somerville urging people to fight against the proposed new zoning regulation that will forbid more than 4 unrelated people to live in a dwelling regardless of the number of bedrooms.
I for one am for zoning regulation. I have lived in Somerville all my life and by having more than 4 unrelated people in an apartment, just puts too much strain on a neighborhood. Sometimes each one of these people have cars which will need to park on the street. Also since for the most part these would be single people in the units, then you have the cars from when their boy friend or girl friend comes by. Plus if they have friends visit, if could be quite a lot of people, since the occupants most likely have their own set of friends.
Please vote to LIMIT the number of occupants to 4. If you would like to see the letter that was sent to me let me know and I will forward it. This letter is telling people it will devalue their properties and limit the amount of rent. (Right now if the value of my land and home went down and therefore, my taxes it would make me happy.) As it stands now there are too many people living in Somerville, and the city is planning on building a lot more apartments. I don't understand how or where all the cars will park esp. during snow emergencies and street cleaning day.
Thank you for your time
