Official Text

Response to Board Order # 192297: "That the Director of SPCD (ISD) and the Chief Fire Engineer report to this Board the current status of the Dilboy Post and when it will be permitted to re-open, and that the Commander of the Dilboy Post be invited to appear before this Board at its next regular meeting."

To the Honorable Board:

After failing to produce adequate occupant load documentation and following inspection by the Somerville Fire Department (SFD) and the Inspectional Services Division (ISD), the Dilboy Post was ordered, on October 24, 2011, to install a sprinkler system.

The sprinkler system plans were to be submitted by November 24, 2011, and installation was to be completed by January 22, 2012. The Dilboy Post management team failed to provide plans for a sprinkler system . Therefore the Certificate of Inspection, which expired on Novermber 15, 2011, was not renewed.

SFD and ISD have been in touch with the Dilboy Post management as they’re attempting to make the required adjustments to satisfy safety requirements.

When the work is completed inspections will be performed and stamped architect drawings with the legal occupant load will be examined. SFD and ISD will determine  after examining all the relevant documentation if and when the Dilboy Post can reopen and there will still be a need for a sprinkler system.

We believe that they hope to complete the member’s area within the next several days.

Respectfully submitted,

Kevin Kelleher and Ed Nuzzo
