To the Honorable Board:

BOA Item #193474...That the Director of Traffic and Parking provide the Committee on Traffic and Parking with an update of Medford’s results regarding truck traffic and inform the Committee on what is illegal.

Traffic and Parking contacted the MassDOT’s Regulations Unit, which is the unit responsible for approving truck exclusions on all streets throughout the Commonwealth.  The Regulations Unit has informed Traffic and Parking that Medford has not submitted paperwork to install truck exclusions on Harvard St in Medford.  The Regulations Unit of MassDOT has not approved any permit for truck exclusions on Harvard St in Medford.  The truck exclusions on Harvard St in Medford are not approved by MassDOT and as such have no authorized standing.

City Officials have contacted Officials in Medford to request the truck exclusion signs are taken down.  Forthcoming information from that meeting will be shared with the BOA as soon as it is available.

BOA Item #193475…That the Traffic Engineer re-visit and provide a solution to the Stop sign issue at Broadway and Hinckley Street and evaluate the installation of street gridlock at that location and report the findings to the Committee on Traffic and Parking.

Traffic and Parking reviewed the intersection of Broadway and Hinckley St.  Both the Do Not Block The Intersection sign on Broadway and the Stop sign on Hinckley St are properly located.  Any traffic congestion and vehicle queues at this intersection would be the result of motorists not obeying these properly installed signs.

Enforcing the moving regulations of properly installed signs is a function of the Somerville Police Department.  A work order has been submitted on your behalf with the Somerville Police Department.
