Official Text

To the Honorable Board:

I respectfully request your approval to accept a grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety in the amount of $9,900 for their Underage Alcohol Enforcement Grant Program. The award will be expended on overtime costs associated with underage alcohol enforcement. Enforcement efforts will be in the form of dedicated patrols with the focus on surveillance in areas of suspected underage drinking and party patrols for breaking up underage parties.  It is believed that strong enforcement will help reduce underage drinking by limiting access to alcohol and reducing the opportunities for youth to drink alcohol.

In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 44, section 53A, which requires a vote of the Board of Aldermen for the expenditure of grants, or gifts from the federal government and from a charitable foundation, private corporation, or an individual, or from the commonwealth, a county or municipality or agency thereof, I request that you submit this grant to the Board of Aldermen for final approval.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
