To the Honorable City Council:
The Mayor respectfully submits for this Council’s consideration and ordainment an amendment to Section 6-97 of the Code of Ordinances. The City of Somerville's application to the Fossil Fuel Free Demonstration Project awaits approval from the Department of Energy Resources. The Ordinance currently states that it would take effect on January 1, 2025 or 180 days after acceptance into the program. January 1 is less than 90 days away. The Administration is requesting the opportunity to amend the enforcement date to give stakeholders and staff the recommended amount of notice of six months for building code updates before the ordinance becomes enforceable.
