To the Honorable City Council:

I respectfully request that your Honorable City Council accept a grant of $95,000 from Mass Department of Health to the Health and Human Services, under the provisions of MGL Chapter 44, Section 53A. This grant does not require the commitment of new matching funds. The purpose of this grant is to hire a FTE Nurse who will provide follow-up support to ensure compliance for students with health care needs. This may include education, home visits, referrals and support for families with children who have targeted specific health concerns (asthma, diabetes, etc) and ensure compliance of health directives to reduce student absenteeism. Additionally the funds will be used to provide training for the current school nursing staff.

My staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. Thank your for your consideration of this item.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone, Mayor
