Official Text

To the Honorable City Council:

The Mayor respectfully requests that this Council appropriate $100,000 from the Racial and Social Justice Fund (Fund 7137)  to implement the 2026 Community Grant Cycle.

The purpose of the Racial and Social Justice Fund is to support both community-focused initiatives and important city efforts that advance racial and social justice.  In supporting community-focused initiatives, the RSJ Fund opened up an application process on May 1. By May 29, the City received 64 applications, demonstrating significant community interest in advancing equity and social justice in Somerville. Individual awards range from $250 to $9,999.  A total of 23 proposals were selected.

An attachment to this communication provides detail on the process and the selected proposals.

Appropriate staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your consideration of this matter.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jake Wilson, Mayor
