Dear Clerk Long,

I am writing in support of order #190749, which was submitted at the January 27, 2011 meeting of the Board of Aldermen.

My boyfriend and I live on Kingston Street in Somerville, and the Community Path is less than a block from our home.  It's been a great place to walk our dog, Boykins.

While the DPW has done a fantastic job keeping the path clear of snow and ice, we've found that the ice melt currently in use is a harsh salt that can hurt our dog's paws.

With that in mind, we are enthusiastic supporters of having the City investigate potentially safer ice melts that would be kinder to all dogs' feet.  We have purchased small quantities of this to use at our home, and are hoping that the cost to use similar material on the path is not prohibitive.

Many thanks to Ward Six Alderman, Rebekah Gewirtz, for bringing this to the attention of the Board of Aldermen and the City.

Sincerely,
Sarah Hall
