Requesting acceptance of a grant of up to $8,000 from the Homeland Security Investigations Office for the Police Dept. to purchase a Cellbrite Mobile Forensic and Data Transfer Device.

To the Honorable Board:

I respectfully request your approval to accept funding from the Homeland Security Investigations Office in the amount of up to $8,000.00 to purchase a Cellbrite Mobile Forensic and Data Transfer Device.  The Cellbrite Mobile Forensic and Data Transfer Device is a critical investigative tool that will further criminal gang investigations worked jointly by the Somerville Police Department and the Homeland Security Investigations Office of the Special Agent in Charge Boston.

In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 44, Section 53A, which requires a vote of the Board of Aldermen for the expenditure of grants, or gifts from the federal government and from a charitable foundation, private corporation, or an individual, or from the Commonwealth, a County or Municipality or agency thereof, I request that you accept this grant for final approval.
