Proclamation
Whereas: Arbor Day was established to recognize the importance of trees in our lives and our communities; and
Whereas: In observance of Arbor Day it is recommended that trees be planted in public areas for all to enjoy; and
Whereas: The City of Somerville will commemorate Arbor Day on Saturday, June 22, 2024, with a special community involvement day; and
Whereas: The City of Somerville has been named "Tree City USA" by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the twenty-ninth consecutive year and has received the "Tree City USA Growth Award" for nine years in recognition of our efforts in tree planting and maintenance; and
Whereas: More than 12,500 trees have been added to the local landscape since 1990 and many more will be planted in 2024; and
Whereas: Planting trees in our neighborhood serves to beautify our local landscape, purify our air and increase our quality of life.
Now therefore be it known to all those present that the Mayor of the City of Somerville respectfully proclaims
Saturday, June 22, 2024 as Arbor Day in the City of Somerville.
