That this Board urges the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission to ban the sale of products combining high levels of caffeine and alcohol, such as "Four Loko", anywhere within the Commonwealth.

WHEREAS,                      Companies are producing drinks, such as Four Loko, that combine dangerous levels of alcohol and caffeine that have resulted in seizures, blackouts and alcohol poisoning in teens throughout the country; and

 

WHEREAS,                      Companies are marketing, packaging and pricing dangerous alcoholic drinks, such as Four Loko, to attract underage drinkers; and

 

WHEREAS,                      The City of Somerville treasures the health, safety and well being of all Somerville children and all children in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; and

 

WHEREAS,                                           The City of Somerville spends countless hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to prevent the abuse of drugs and alcohol by our teens; NOW THEREFORE BE IT

 

RESOLVED,                     That the Somerville Board of Aldermen hereby urges the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to ban the sale of products combining high levels of caffeine and alcohol, such as "Four Loko", anywhere within the Commonwealth.
