To the Honorable Board:

I respectfully request, in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 44, Section 53A, that your Honorable Board vote to expend the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) grant, in the amount of $490,000, awarded to the City of Somerville for the MaxPak site by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

This grant will provide funding for the ramped roadway (the “Ramp”) from Lowell Street down into the development site and its foundation, a 28 ft high retaining wall adjacent to the railroad right-of-way, stairs, landscaping, and architectural/engineering services.  The City was a co-applicant on the grant together with KSS Realty, Inc. which will fund the balance of the estimated $1.05 million construction project and KSS Realty, Inc. will be granted the funds from the City as a sub-grantee consistent with Massachusetts procurement law.

This is a reimbursable grant, but no local match is required.

Sincerely,

Joseph A. Curtatone

Mayor
