To the Honorable Board:

The Administration respectfully requests the opportunity to update your Honorable Board on matters related to construction of the MBTA Green Line Extension in the Gilman Square station area.

The MBTA and its Design-Build Contractor GLX Constructors, Inc. have proposed to perform site preparation and construction activities on City-owned parcels of land in Gilman Square under a License Agreement. The License Agreement has been executed, and is attached for your reference.

The License Agreement grants the MBTA and its contractor the right to use the licensed premises for all purposes related to the design and construction of the Green Line Extension for the duration of the construction process.  The licensed premises will comprise the following locations:

Location Description

Assessing Department Map-Block-Lot

Area in Sq. Ft.

Homans Building premises

Skilton Avenue premises

61-D-3-9,14,15

Under the terms of this License Agreement, GLX Constructors will perform demolition of the City-owned Homans Building, and will preserve and store certain architectural details consistent with the determination of the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission.  Following the demolition, GLX Constructors will pave a temporary parking area for use by the City, which will support the City’s mobility management initiatives related to the Somerville High School construction project.

At a later date, the Administration will seek the Honorable Board’s approval to grant Permanent Easements on certain of these City-owned parcels to reflect the operations of the Green Line station.

My staff will be available to answer any questions the Honorable Board may have.

Respectfully Submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone, Mayor
