Official Text

That the Committee on Housing and Community Development review SomerVision 2040 metrics and key tasks related to the Housing chapter and provide feedback to this Council, the SomerVision Committee, and the Planning Board, including a discussion of questions listed within:

How much market-rate affordable housing exists now, and how can we expect it to change?

Is there anything we can do to preserve middle or low income people in not deed-restricted housing? (e.g. tenant protections, benevolent landlord support, tax deferral) How much housing can we preserve this way and how long do we expect properties to remain accessible to people of different means?

What are our strategies for getting more deed-restricted affordable housing? How well are they working? What new strategies should we try?

How can we carry out administrative requirements of an increased number of affordable properties?

What should be the distribution of affordable units across AMI levels? Do we need special targets for households with children, people with mobility challenges, seniors, non US-residency statuses?

How much emergency housing do we have vs. need?

Will the City launch a new study/task force, as recommended by the report?
