WHEREAS,                     Members of the Board of Aldermen and the government of the City of Somerville have long been deluged with complaints from residents with regard to the noise from flights taking off from Logan Airport; and

WHEREAS,                     It is unreasonable to subject people to the Airport’s increasing noise, air pollution, and automobile traffic, which substantially derogates from the quality of life that people expect to enjoy in their homes, community and backyards; and

WHEREAS,                     This Board of Aldermen wishes to support efforts to address these problems on a community-wide basis, particularly by the new MassPort Community Advisory Committee; NOW THEREFORE BE IT

RESOLVED,                     That the Somerville Board of Aldermen hereby calls for:

                     1.                     A regional citizens’ forum on airport operations, flight paths, environmental impacts and related health outcomes, run by communities and experts;

                     2.                     Establishment of a new online database allowing citizens in any census tract within 20 miles of Logan to look up noise and other data by runway and time period; and

                     3.                     Pursuit of Federal research grants (NIH, EPA, etc.) to allow Somerville to work with other communities and regional universities on impacts and mitigation.
