To the Honorable Board:

I respectfully request that your Honorable Board accept a grant of $92,888 from the HUD Healthy Homes/Tufts University/STEP collaorative  to the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development, under the provisions of MGL Chapter 44, Section 53A. This grant does not require the commitment of new matching funds. This grant funding will be used to study the efficacy of centralized air-filtration systems installed in affordable, multi-family housing as a tool to mitigate air pollution sourced from adjacent highways. The City of Somerville OSPCD will be a collaborating organization on the effort, along with Tufts University Schools of Engineering and Medicine as well as the Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership (“STEP”).

My staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. Thank your for your consideration of this item.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone, Mayor
