Official Text

To the Honorable Board:

In response to Alderman Sullivan’s agenda item 197980:
That the Director of Personnel update this Board on implementation of the domestic violence leave policy mandated by Chapter 260 of the Acts of 2014”.

Please be advised the City of Somerville has implemented a ‘Domestic Violence Leave’ policy in accordance with Massachusetts Domestic Violence Leave Law (MGL, c149, §52E). The Policy, attached, can be found on the Personnel tab of the COS website. In addition, attached are employee and Department Head notifications, documentation process - and resources for victims that are available to all employees and issued as required.

I am of the belief that the COS may be one of the first municipalities in the Commonwealth to have implemented such a policy.

Brief description of the attached seven documents

                     Domestic Leave Policy - Final

                     DVL Notice EE’s - attached to all City employee’s checks w/e 11/15/2014

DVL Notice Department Heads - sent to all Department heads with instructions to review with all of their employees and send sign-in sheet to Personnel for documentation

DVL- New Hire Acknowledgement - form new employee signs after review of policy

DVL Checklist - documentation form for employee to complete when applying for leave

Options-Resources - Options for Employees Who Are Survivors of Domestic Violence

I am available if further discussion or clarification is needed.
