To the Honorable City Council:
The Mayor respectfully requests that this Council accept and approve expending a grant of $59,497 from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources to the Health and Human Services Department - Community Wellness Division, under the provisions of MGL Chapter 44, Section 53A. This grant requires a match from the city. The Council Order Legistar Item#26-1390.
The purpose of this grant is to pay for a new walk-in refrigerator and freezer for the Somerville Mobile Farmers Market, expanding its cold storage capacity to provide more low-cost, locally grown produce, and reduce food waste.
