Requesting the acceptance of a grant of $18,850 from the Dept. of Environmental Protection for the city's recycling program.

To the Honorable Board:

 

The City of Somerville has been awarded a grant in the amount of $18,850 from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for recycling purposes.  The grant funding is from DEP's Sustainable Material Recovery Program and will be used for the following purposes: $15,000 for wheeled recycling carts for the city's single stream pilot, $750 for materials to publicize single stream recycling, $600 for food waste collection containers and $2500 to publicize food waste collection.

 

In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 44, Section 53A, which requires a vote of the Board of Aldermen for the expenditure of grants or gifts from the federal government and from a charitable foundation, private corporation, or an individual, or from the Commonwealth, a county or municipality or agency thereof, I request approval to expend this grant.
