To the Honorable Board:
I recently attended the Chamber’s Innovation event and it was disconcerting to learn that companies are trying to attract a workforce that prefer to work and live in one place. Somerville is already on the verge of a housing shortage. I also learned that companies seek to move quickly and move into new space within a year. Buildings have to be marketable and continuing to delay the zoning is a barrier to attracting new business. Companies will not wait for Somerville to figure it out, instead they will look elsewhere.
In my opinion, the Board of Aldermen should take control and move this process forward. Otherwise, we will be stuck in a perpetual state of constant conversation about what should be done to improve Union Square, and nothing will ever happen.
