To the Honorable City Council:

I respectfully request that your Honorable City Council accept a grant of $25,600 from Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency to the Health and Human Services, under the provisions of MGL Chapter 44, Section 53A. This grant does not require the commitment of new matching funds. Matching funds totaling $22,995, have already been appropriated by your Honorable City Council to pay for the Municipal High-Speed Mass Notification System. The purpose of this grant is to purchase two (2) emergency preparedness equipment trailers used by HHS and Somerville Fire Department and implement a live emergency preparedness drill to test the emergency dispensing plan.

My staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. Thank your for your consideration of this item.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone, Mayor
