To the Honorable Board:

Thanks very much for taking the time to hear our concerns regarding zoning issues.

As I'm sure you're aware, redevelopment of Union Square and neighborhood is a complex and multi-faceteed issue.

Zoning is necessary but not sufficient to guarantee on-going monitoring and oversight of present and future construction issues. A representative Neighbor Council and enforceable CBA's are required.

Please delay implementing changes in zoning until LOCUS group Strategy Leaders can work out in the near future the details of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for this Neighborhood Council and enforceable Community Benefits Agreements with developer(s) and city government.  Thanks again for your consideration.

I will try to share with you a powerpoint presentation on these zoning issues as well  as background on the Catholic history and role in Somerville in building our community.

Cordially,

Fr. Richard G. Curran, Ed.D.
