Dear Honorable Board Members:

 

The City of Somerville Health Department has been awarded a “Cost Share for Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Terminals and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach at Massachusetts Farmers’ Markets in the amount of $1,000.00 from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources.

 

The grant will provide $1,000.00 in matching funds for Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) purchases at the Winter Farmers Market during the 2011-2012 season.  Electronic Benefit Transfer purchases will be matched for a dollar up to a maximum of $10.00.  This initiative is part of Shape Up Somerville’s efforts to increase affordability of farm fresh produce for low income residents.

 

In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 44, section 53A which requires a vote of the Board of Alderman for the expenditure of grants or gifts from the federal government and from a charitable foundation, private corporation, or an individual, or from the Commonwealth, a County or Municipality or agency thereof, I respectfully request your approval to accept this $1,000.00 grant.
