That this Board supports an MBTA Red Line mitigation plan for Davis Square, to include discount advertising and a "Shop in Somerville" advertising campaign.

Official Text

WHEREAS,                      The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) reconstruction of Red Line tracks is causing weekend closures; and

 

WHEREAS,                      The MBTA recognizes that bus shuttle service is not comparable to subway service and inevitably causes a decline in economic activity; and

 

WHEREAS,                      The Somerville Chamber of Commerce has proposed MBTA discount advertising and a Shop in Somerville campaign as mitigation measures for business interruptions; NOW THEREFORE BE IT

 

RESOLVED,                     That this Board of Aldermen supports these measures and hereby requests that officials from the MBTA meet with the City of Somerville’s Mayor, Ward Alderman and the Somerville Chamber of Commerce with regard to instituting these mitigations.
