RE: Support for Formal Recognition of the Davis Square Neighborhood Council
I write to express my support for formally recognizing the Davis Square Neighborhood Council.
I worked closely with the Davis Square Neighborhood Council since its earliest meetings and watched a small group of folks with interest in the concept grow into a full-fledged organization. It was a long road but the wait reflects the diligence of the members and is the result of a sustained, patient process.
I believe in the value of neighborhood councils. Beyond the legal authority to negotiate community benefits agreements with developers, they give residents a structured venue to have their voices heard, and they provide the city a genuine partner as we address the many challenges that we face.
I fully support this recognition, and I thank the Davis Square Neighborhood Council for its patience and dedication to the community it serves.
