To the Honorable City Council:

May 11, 2022.

Agenda Item 212250

That the Commissioner of Public Works, the Director of Purchasing, and the Director of Mobility report to the Legislative Matters Committee on enforcement of and annual reporting on the Ordinance to Safeguard Vulnerable Road Users.

May 2022 update on Vulnerable Road User Ordinance Inspection and Enforcement activity.

The previous update on requests for inspections and waivers was submitted to the Council in November 2021. Since the last update, there have been no requests made for inspections or waivers to the Department of Public Works by any City of Somerville vendors.

One DPW vendor asked that the contract scope be amended to remove pricing and scope for deliveries until they had side guards in place. However, they didn’t have a time frame for their installation. Procurement and Contracting Services edited the contract’s scope to prohibit deliveries until an inspection was conducted.
