Official Text

To The Honorable Board:

I respectfully request that your Honorable Board vote to approve an appropriation request of $1,500,000.00 for non-participating costs associated with the Beacon Street Reconstruction project, and authorizing the Mayor and City Treasurer to borrow not exceeding $1,500,000.00 to meet said appropriation, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 44, of the Massachusetts General Laws.

The total construction value of the Beacon Street Reconstruction Project is $9,550,000.00, of which $1,500,000.00 are costs that the City of Somerville is responsible for under the standard MassDOT Non-Participating Cost Agreement. This includes City standard traffic signals, street lights, landscaping and street furnishings beyond the MassDOT standard; parking improvements outside the scope of the MassDOT project; Resident Engineer / Construction Administration services beyond the MassDOT standard; and contingency funds subject to the MassDOT standard 110% Agreement.

Our Non-Participating Agreement with MassDOT specifies the City’s construction funding share at $1,202,295.00.

There are four major cost categories:

Water-related items                      $70,040

                     Curbing                      $82,770

                     Street Furnishings                     $617,605

                     Electrical Items                     $431,880

Our funding request also includes $275,000.00 of Construction Administration / Resident Engineer services.

Respectfully,

Joseph A. Curtatone

Mayor
