To the Honorable Board:

I respectfully request your approval, in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 44, Section 53A, which requires a vote of the Board of Aldermen for the expenditure of grants or gifts from the federal government and from a charitable foundation, private corporation, or an individual, or from the Commonwealth, a County or Municipality or agency thereof, of a grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,  Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, State 911 Department for the FY2011 State 911 Department Support and Incentive Initiative to the Somerville Police Department in the amounts of $186,976.00 and $33,244.00.

The primary goal of the State 911 PSAP and RECC Support and Incentive Grant Program is to assist PSAPs and regional emergency communication centers in providing enhanced 911 services and to foster the development of regional PSAPs, regional secondary PSAPs and regional emergency communication centers.  Funding from the Grant will be used for compensation issued to employees to include straight time, overtime and contract differentials, sick, vacation and/or personal leave along with training costs.

Respectfully,
