To the Honorable Board:
The City of Somerville Health Department has been awarded a CLAMP Grant from Mass DOT for a Transportation Demand Management project for Walk/Ride Day in the amount of $205,854.00.
This grant will let us expand Walk/Ride Day regionally to five additional communities in the Greater Boston region. The grant’s goal is to increase demand for public transportation and increase bike and pedestrian commuting by people who live and work in the Greater Boston region. The project will use Walk/Ride Day, which happens twelve times a year, to promote active and green transportation options in the region and decrease congestion, emissions, car use and single occupancy vehicles.
In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 44, section 53A which requires a vote of the Board of Alderman for the expenditure of grants or gifts from the federal government and from a charitable foundation, private corporation, or an individual, or from the Commonwealth, a County or Municipality or agency thereof, I respectfully request approval to accept this grant which totals $205,854.
Respectfully submitted,
Joseph A. Curtatone
Mayor
