To the Honorable City Council:
The Mayor respectfully requests that this Council accept and approve expending a grant of $22,800.08 from the Metropolitan Mayors Coalition Community Safety Initiative Shannon Grant to the Police Department, under the provisions of MGL Chapter 44, Section 53A. This grant requires some level of matching funds from the city. To utilize these grant funds, the match requirement will be $5,720.02.
The purpose of this grant is to pay for overtime dedicated to the prevention of youth violence. In the past, this has included Hot Spot Patrols, the Youth Police Academy, and Basketball Games. These activities will be included again this year, along with other opportunities for engagement still being determined.
