Proclamation
Whereas: the week of April 21-25, 2025 has been designated as National Community Development Week by the National Community Development Association to celebrate the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG); and
Whereas: CDBG has provided the City of Somerville and other local governments with the resources required to meet the needs of persons of low to moderate income; and
Whereas: CDBG funds are used by thousands of neighborhood based, non-profit organization throughout the nation to address the pressing needs of low income residents by providing flexible funding for: affordable, safe, and sanitary housing; improvements to create suitable living environments; and economic opportunities for low to moderate income persons; and
Whereas: over the past five years the City of Somerville has received over $10M, which was used to fund the following programs and activities: 100 Homes and Community Land Trust affordable housing projects, local non-profit public services programs, funding for non-profits and small businesses to prevent, prepare, and respond to COVID-19, tree planting, and parks and open space projects; and
Now therefore be it known to all those present that the Mayor of the City of Somerville respectfully proclaims
April 21-25, 2025 as Community Development Week.
