Dear Honorable Board Members:

In Item No. 203512, you have asked that the Superintendent of Inspectional Services Report to this Board on the condition of 17 Ashland Street, and advise, with the City Solicitor, whether the City can force the owner to fix the property, and whether the City should begin the process of having a receiver appointed for the property.

Based on a May 23, 2017 inspection, ISD reports that the property is vacant and is in deteriorating condition.  A violation notice detailing the violations was sent to the property owner on May 24, 2017.  A follow up inspection occurred on June 1, 2017.  On June 8, 2017, a building code ticket was sent to the property owner and the property was referred to the Attorney General’s Abandoned Housing Initiative for potential receivership.

Sincerely,

David P. Shapiro

Assistant City Solicitor
