Somertime Revolving Fund
Programs/Services/ Activities Funded: Recreation Somertime Program under the direction of Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone was designed with intention of creating a structured fun and safe environment for children in the City of Somerville during their summer school vacation. Each Morning the program will meet at the West Somerville Neighborhood School located at 177 Powderhouse Blvd. Monday thru Friday at 8:30am and will participate in activities such as games, arts & crafts, sports, field trips, pool use, and community service. Every child will be given a swim test prior to pool use. Additionally, every child who attends 2 weeks or more will be given two (2) t-shirts. Camp t-shirts are required to wear for safety purposes. The program ends promptly at 4:30pm. This is a fun summer program not summer school! We hope to encourage a sense of self-worth in children as they volunteer their time to assisting others during their community service assignments and a sense of pride as they contribute their time and effort by making Somerville a great place to call home. All campers when registering must have a current physical within the last 12 months and all immunizations must be up to date and recorded. The required expenses that enable the program to be sustainable are: salaries, food & refreshments, program supplies, t-shirts, field trips admission/fees, and Rec transportation. It is the desire of the Recreation Department to create a structurally safe summer program that is both socially educational and fun for the children residing in Somerville.
Receipts Credited: Deposits for tuition, tuition fees, and the cost of extra t-shirts should parents want more than the allotted 2 shirts. Should a parent arrive after 4:45p to pick up their child they are charged late fees. FY 2016 Spending Limit: $50,000 Authorized Officer: Jill Lathan
