Official Text

To the Honorable Board:

Agenda Item 198382

That the Chief of Police and the Director of Traffic and Parking inspect the street crossing at Cutter Avenue and Summer Street and take all steps needed to ensure that motorists stop for pedestrians attempting to cross there.

Traffic and Parking has conducted a site review of the above referenced intersection. All signs and pavement markings are in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, are in good condition and are positioned properly. Notwithstanding the above, Traffic and Parking has installed an additional sign with the legend “Yield to Pedestrians on Turns During Adjacent Walk Cycles”. A motorist failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk is an enforcement issue. Traffic and Parking has discussed this matter with the Somerville Police Department.

Agenda Item 198412

That the Director of Traffic and Parking provide this Board with a breakdown of registered vehicles and residential parking permits in the city over the last 10 years.

Traffic and Parking does not have a list of all registered vehicles in the City. It is not mandatory that all vehicles purchase a resident permit. Traffic and Parking’s current vendor has not been with the City for 10 years but has asked for a report to be compiled for as far back as possible.
