To the Honorable Board:

I am submitting to your Honorable Board this amendment to the Zoning Ordinance to implement the first priorities of the Union Square Neighborhood Plan. The new Union Square Overlay District will permit development of the "D-block" parcels in Union Square, and ensure that coordinated development of these parcels meets our SomerVision goals. The zoning also amends the existing CCD zoning to ensure that we meet our commercial development goals.

In forthcoming weeks, the OSPCD Planning Division looks forward to presenting this ordinance to the Board.

In addition, the OSPCD Director will update the Board about the status of development in Union Square and the process for building a public benefits program supported by Union Square development.

I look forward to working with you as we further or SomerVision goals in Union Square.
